Another in Connect The Thoughts series of Current Events courses. These courses each start by defining a global problem. Then, the course leads the student through directed research, so that the student can get a real grasp of the current situation for that issue. The student follows this up with creative exercises which help define the issue and the student's response to it as a concerned citizen of the world.

For students ages 11-adult. One of the longest-lived and most pervasive of human problems, racism has been with mankind since the first men looked at other men and realized that they looked different. That in itself is fine, but when this recognition is used to oppress or hold down an individual or a group (simply because they are different), you have a source of hatred, war and despair.

What is racism? How does a person become a racist? What are the devastating results of racism? Who were the most terrible racists in history, and what did they do to encourage racist attitudes? Who were the heroes in history who opposed or ended racism in their homelands? What have people done in the past to either support or try to stop racism, what is its history?

What can be done about racism today? The student will decide, after coming to an understanding of the problem through his own structured research, what he or she wants to do about this issue.
