Arts are often sadly neglected today in education. We offer extensive programs in Music Theory and Composition; Animation; and Acting, all designed for home school use. These highly creative, detailed courses provide an education in depth, with an eye toward the creation of professionals. They should generally be done in sequence by the student interested in that art form.
We offer budding actors (or those with a dream to act) a basic introduction to acting in our Upper School Program. There are two courses offered, two semesters of fun, hands-on experience in the art and magic of acting. The courses are theater rather than film oriented. You will need at least two students to do this course well, though it can be done by a single student. Groups with access to a theater will do very well with these courses.
The end result of our acting program for Upper School is a student who understands the basics of theatrical acting, understands how to work on a stage, take direction and blocking, and who has done some performing.
Mr. Horwich has been teaching acting professionally since 1973. He has also taight at the University level, in private schools and consistently during that time in private workshops. At the Upper School level, the program consists of two courses. IF YOUR STUDENT DID LOWER SCHOOL ACTING I AND II, then they should skip Upper School Acting I and go straight to Upper School Acting II, which provides the basics of a technique that the student can build on to develop their acting ability. For the stuent who did not do Lower School Acting, we do recommend that they start with Upper School Acting I, which covers all the Lower School acting materials and which explains essentials an actor must know to work on stage.
The end result of our one year Upper School Acting program is a student who understands how to work in a play, knows how take direction, knows how to work with a director, and has the basis of a technique that he or she can develop on and become a proficient actor.
For a more detailed approach to acting, please consider Mr. Horwich's Ethical Art Actor's Handbook , available on this site, just click the link. It contains both Upper School courses and an enormous amount of additional material, intended to help develop a professional actor.
