Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)

In each course, in nearly every lesson plan for Elementary 1st Step (ages 7-8), and Connect The Thoughts (ages 9-adult), there are essays the student is asked to author. These have a word count "requirement" of usually between 25-50 words.

The suggested word count for each essay should be treated as just that, a suggestion . The purpose of a designated word count was to get the student writing and hence, thinking. But it is a recommendation ONLY , and students should not be counting words to see if they're finished .

The goal isn't to teach the student to count, it's to get them thinking. Don't let them worry about word count, please!  If the student demonstrates an understanding of the concepts being discussed, and it takes the student five well-selected words to do so, then give a cheer and move on to the next part of the lesson plan.
